About the Photographer
Joan Fairman Kanes is a freelance photographer based near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her work experience includes twenty years of producing news, sports and feature photos for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Since 2004, in addition to other photography assignments, she has covered horse racing at major tracks in the northeast, the mid-atlantic and the south, at first for the Inquirer and later as a freelancer for equine publications.
About the Website
The work on this website is divided into galleries that are all similar in format except for the one called Thoroughbreds. In that gallery, a link next to the first image of each horse leads to additional pictures, with captions. In each of the galleries, thumbnail images can be clicked to bring up a larger version.
